Two S&F customers, Fine Art Imaging and Interboro Signs, collaborate to reopen Broadway after a lengthy hiatus due to Covid-19.

Fine Art Imaging, an S&F Supplies customer for 20 years, created the Broadway Marquee for "Thoughts of a Colored Man" at the Golden Theatre in Midtown Manhattan. It was installed on Thursday by Interboro Signs.

As the first new show to take up residency on Broadway since the pandemic halted shows in March, it is bringing much needed hope and optimism to the arts community and the community at large.

The play is set to open whenever Broadway restarts, with more details to be announced in the coming weeks.

Sign Materials

The Marquee is made using aluminum sheets supported by aluminum tubing and updated regularly with products like Avery printed vinyl.

The upper frame of the marquee is a Sign Comp frame, installed with banner like Digi-Banner material and secured with tension clips.

As George from Fine Art Imaging puts it, he buys from S&F Supplies because "you have everything we need, from A-Z."

A Budding Partnership

This is not the first time that Fine Art Imaging and Interboro Signs have worked together to install a Broadway sign.

These two companies share a long history, and have even been interviewed by Spectrum News NY1 on how Broadway marquee signs are made.

Interboro Signs together with Fine Art Imaging have installed the likes of Hamilton at Richard Rodgers Theatre, Hairspray at Neil Simon Theater, and The Lightning Thief at Longacre Theater.

While Fine Art installs everything below the marquee including sign cases and door wraps, Interboro Signs takes care of everything above the marquee. For Interboro Signs President Larry Derespinis, that involves hanging Broadway signs 3 times a week pre-pandemic with their fleet of 14 trucks.

These sign companies are helping to bring Black voices to Broadway Theaters and paving the way for the return of art.

George Saraydarian, President of Fine Art Imaging hit it on the mark when he said, of walking around the Theatre District, "I usually walk around with a big smile on my face, saying 'I was part of that, and I helped make that happen'."

What a day to be a part of Broadway.
