After the non-year that 2020 was, we can all use some good news. Printing Impressions, in partnership with Wide-Format Impressions and Vincent Mallardi released a report detailing the hottest markets forecasted to boost printing sales in the coming year.

Individuals and businesses are looking to spend more money on printing to grow their business. That means more money for you.

Printing Impressions predicts the coming months will be the "best sales season in print history" with $211B in sales. If you are prepared.

So get to work. Cash in on this one-time-only deal as the economy takes two to five years to recover from the recent shock.

Food Packaging

Social distancing has majorly affected restaurants and bar sales, but increased drive-through and home-delivery takeout options. Expect to see $26.8B in printing sales for corrugated and board printers and converters, and wide-format flexography for imaging polyethylene (PE) stretch wrap.

Medical/Pharma

The pandemic is not quite over, with respirators, testing devices, and vaccine diagnostic and delivery products seeing record sales.

Compliant packaging will see major printing growth with more vaccine sites and large amounts of vaccine kits needed. Folded inserts, blister packs, retail POS, waiting room wall graphics, magazines and bind-ins are needed. With telemedicine on the rise print advertising will account for much of the $19.6B growth.

Health Providers

Hospitals administered to more than 70,000 COVID-19 patients in one very unprecedented year, with government assistance covering much of the costs.

The coming years will show a relative return to "normal". Non-emergency elective procedures and outpatient services will resume for private paying customers.

Hospitals will need facelifts and new signage, perhaps a whole rebranding. Indoor and outdoor signage and décor to attract fresh clients and much needed funds, including print materials, will see $18.1B.

Urgent Care now "Concierge" Medicine

"Boutique" medicine is on the rise with an expected 16,000 new locations needing promotional material. These new "health clubs" will need direct mail advertising, free branded giveaways, and signage for grand openings of new facilities. Revenue approaching $44B.

Beverage Industry

The beverage industry will see a boost in sales in wines, liquors, and infused flavor beverages. Tequila, soft drinks, coffee, tea and juice are also trending.

New packaging labels are needed, including paperboard carriers, adhesive labels, POP displays. Floor and wall graphics, window clings, vehicle wraps, and branded apparel will be big. $11.1B.

Publishing

In a heated political year, publishing houses will see more political books published. Periodicals, religious publishing, and professional and academic publishing will also be on the rise.

Social expression industry- greeting cards, envelopes, gift bags, ribbons, and wrapping paper will benefit from the overall $10.9B in print sales.

Real Estate

In a seller's market, newly built commercial and residential properties remain empty. Many retail businesses are closing and commercial real estate has collapsed, forcing real estate holders to seek occupancy alternatives.

Commercial properties are converting into condos, indoor play parks, and senior residences. Printing will see a boost in directional signage, décor printing and advertising materials.

Homebuilders and realtors trying to fill newly built homes not yet sold during the pandemic will need signage. Guides, sell sheets, forms, direct mail advertising and stationary are expected. Expect S10.8B.

Travel/Hospitality

The uptake is slow on travel; expect to see a 5-7 year recovery. But lodging and homestays are increasing slowly, as are cruise lines. As cruise ships resume schedule, they will need updated travel catalogs, decorative posters and cruise schedules. Onboard and in-cabin wayfinding signs, and other forms of signage are needed. S10.2B.

Telecommunications

Everyone has a cell phone these days so direct consumer advertising is low, but price competition is high. Retail packaging for mobile phones and accessories will need printing. Transit advertising and retail stores, both indoor, window, and outdoor signage will also see printing growth. $9.8B.

Personal Care

Sanitizing products made popular by the pandemic are likely to continue into the future as habits are hard to break. Hair, skin and sun-care products are up-trending as people resume self care routines. They will need direct-mail advertising to circumvent makeup counter closings. New product postcards, fragrance samples, and product samples will be on the rise. $9B.

Banking

In-person banking is a thing of the past and not likely to return. Remote transactions are here to stay, and banks will invest in direct mail and commuter rail advertising and event sponsorships <$9B, shrinking industry.

Food Service

A new kind of eating is hitting the market with start-ups like Doordash pivoting to upscale food subscription services. Food will be prepared and delivered locally, to replace more than 100,000 closed eateries. Direct mail, flyers, and promotional products will be needed to introduce these new food services, to the tune of $8.6B.

Home Improvement

People stuck at home during the pandemic invested in home improvement to change up the same boring walls. Expect large growth as people try their hand at DIY fixups including furnishing, appliances, and construction material, wallpaper, countertops, and other printed OEM products. Big box stores selling these materials need in-store advertising, POS displays, folding cartons, labels, dye-sub prints and more. $8.3B.
