Coronavirus infection rates continue to be low—below 1 percent—which is good news for many businesses as the state's reopening plan continues on track.

New York State released guidelines on Tuesday, August 18, for reopening of gyms and fitness centers. The guidance is set to take effect on Monday, August 24 for all regions of the state, although New York City is not expected to reopen gyms until September 2, as their current priority is inspecting schools and childcare centers.

The reopening guidelines include the usual pandemic regulations, such as maintaining at least six feet of distance between all individuals, sanitizing, screening, and masks, as well as some requirements unique to the fitness industry.

Gym reopenings present many opportunities to sign makers, as the state requires gyms to "Post signage inside and outside of the gym or fitness center to remind employees and patrons to adhere to proper hygiene, social distancing rules, appropriate use of PPE, and cleaning and disinfection protocols."

Now is the best time to contact gyms and offer to fill all their signage needs, as they gear up to reopen shortly. This includes traditional signage, such as A-frames, banner stands, posters, and wall banners, in addition to items such as floor decals and protective dividers.

Gyms are far from the only new opportunities available to sign makers; the back to school season also means a booming school signage market. Check out our Back to School Buyer's Guide for more information.
