Keep your reputation intact and your customers happy when you use GreenLeafLED modules to light your channel letter signs. Avoid pesky hotspots and achieve the perfect halo.

If you've ever installed channel letter signs you know that the placement of LED lighting is key. Mars Bravo from SIGNS OF THE TIMES discusses this challenge in the August 2021 issue. The most embarrassing and possibly damaging thing for a sign installer is to walk by a sign they installed and see, instead of a perfect halo glow, "LED dots, lines or shadows".

There are a few reasons why the lighting could be messed up on the sign. For one, it could be you are installing channel letters on a glossy surface. Or did you know that dark blue walls absorb light from reverse channel letters and cause the light to turn a soft blue?

Don't find out the hard way.

3 tips to solve your channel letter lighting issues

From Mars Bravo, a contributor at Signs of the Times:

  1. If the sign backing is a shiny polycarbonate, diffuse the back with a diffuser vinyl or by sanding it down to create a frosted effect. This will avoid reflections on the surface and allow the light to shine properly.
  2. Try different placements. Mars experimented with a zigzag pattern to reduce hotspots. the size of your LED modules is also important.
  3. Make sure your channel letters are compatible with the backing. Check that the area has proper lighting for reverse channel letters, and that the color of the wall won't pull in all the light. Do research and field study.
