A business sign hung 7 stories high needed prominent visibility; J Signs was brought in for the job.

The Location:

A 4-way intersection with an annual average daily traffic count of 25,226 vehicles. The exposure your business could get is astronomical. Provided you have the right sign in the right place.

Orlin & Cohen Orthopedic Group has a team of 55 orthopedic subspecialists in 15 locations across Long Island and are open 7 days a week. In addition, they have close to 2,000 reviews of an average 4.5 stars, and it is clear that they are a well-known practice with a loyal customer base. But in business, you can always do better.

36 Lincoln Ave, Rockville Center NY is a medical office building situated at the lucrative corner of Lincoln Ave and S. Village Ave, right near the NY State Sunrise Highway 27 that runs from Brooklyn to Montauk. New York State Traffic Data puts the average daily traffic count at twenty-five thousand vehicles. That’s billions in free advertising.

Orlin & Cohen wanted an upgrade from their flat non-illuminated sign on the building face to one that would be much more visible.

J Signs did a wonderful job on the project.

The sign needed to be hung around 7 stories high on the front of the building. From the initial designs to the permit process and the finished product, J Signs used their years of sign-making expertise to make the process smooth and easy for their client.

The Process:

  • J Signs makes a shop drawing design after surveying the building, pending approval from the town.
  • A permit service handles an estimate of the permit based on the preliminary drawings. If approved, they move forward with the next step.
  • Make a detailed drawing and a design that fits the parameters set by the city. Show the customer the design and discuss what legally can be done.
  • Once customer approves the detailed drawings, the fabrication process begins.

The Sign Design:

J Signs detailed sign drawing

Using Orlin & Cohen’s existing logo design, J Signs fabricated a reverse-lit channel letter sign on a background raceway with LED halo illumination.

There are many benefits of a reverse-lit halo sign:

  • The 3D effect makes the letters prominent and visible both during the day and at night.
  • Aluminum and acrylic materials are very lightweight making mounting, especially so high up, much easier.
  • LED lights are long lasting and energy efficient and lends to the sign’s visibility. It is a great option for outdoor signs.

"I love the fact that S&F Supplies was able to send me pre-cut aluminum, it made the job so much easier."

Jerry Morello, J Signs

The Material:

S&F Supplies cut the aluminum for the sign. We also offer bending services.

The reverse channel letters were made with .80 aluminum, and a 3/16” clear acrylic letter back with LED supports, and .060 aluminum return. The letters were painted using Matthews paint system to match Pantone #7468 Slate Blue. The full background raceway is .063 painted aluminum, and the cabinet background color is Mesa del Sol.

Anchoring System:

The sign was secured with 3/8” galvanized threaded rod anchoring and backing plate hung in 4 cabinet sections with threaded rod & plates mounted through the wall every 2’-10” on the center; galvanized 5” Lag Shield added additional concrete anchors.

Lighting:

The letters were lit using White LED Modules.

Time for installation:

The installation takes time from the initial proposal until the actual mounting. This sign installation took 4-5 weeks for the initial design and permit process, 1-2 weeks on detailed drawing and client confirmation, and 4-5 days for the installation.

The results is a beautifully lit expertly made sign that Orlin & Cohen will get use out of for many years.

And J Signs has just one more satisfied customer.
